Here's a one-day trip itinerary for Fukuoka, including some exciting suburban adventures:
Morning (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM): Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and Nanzoin Temple
Start your day with a visit to the iconic Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, located in the town of Dazaifu, a 30-minute train ride from central Fukuoka
- Dedicated to the scholar Sugawara no Michizane, the shrine is considered a powerful symbol of academic success and is particularly popular among students during exam season.
- Explore the beautiful shrine grounds, admire the traditional architecture, and write your wishes on an ema (wooden prayer plaque).
- Next, head to the nearby town of Sasaguri and visit the impressive Nanzoin Temple, which houses a massive 41-meter-long reclining Buddha statue, the largest in Japan.

Afternoon (12:00 PM - 4:00 PM): Uminonakamichi Seaside Park and Fukuoka Fish Market
After exploring the historical and spiritual sites, escape to the beautiful Uminonakamichi Seaside Park, a large park located on an island accessible by bridge from Fukuoka City.
- Relax on the sandy beaches, explore the park’s gardens and museums, or rent bicycles and enjoy a scenic ride along the coastline.
- If you’re traveling with children, the park also offers an amusement park and a marine world.
- On your way back to the city, stop by the renowned Fukuoka Fish Market, the largest seafood market in Kyushu.
Marvel at the incredible variety of fresh seafood, from local fish and shellfish to exotic offerings. You can also enjoy a delicious and authentic seafood lunch at one of the many restaurants within the market.
Evening (4:00 PM - 7:00 PM): Fukuoka Tower and Canal City Hakata
As the sun sets, head to the iconic Fukuoka Tower, the tallest structure in Fukuoka City.
- Take the elevator to the observation deck and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the city and the surrounding area.
- During the evening, the tower and the city skyline are beautifully illuminated, creating a truly magical experience.
- After enjoying the view, head to Canal City Hakata, a large entertainment complex located in the heart of the city.
- Explore the various shops, restaurants, cinemas, and entertainment facilities within the complex.
- You can do some shopping, enjoy a delicious dinner, or catch a movie to end your day in Fukuoka.
